"I like that Underwear As Outerwear look"
"I'm too old for it."
"It looks great on Susie Bubble"
"She's half my age"
"Hey, look, Vanessa Williams is wearing a corset on Ugly Betty, and she's older than me."
"Vanessa Williams is a Hollywood actress, a former pop singer, and a former Miss America. I am not now, and never have been, a Hollywood actress, a pop singer, or Miss America. I am a forty-something suburban housewife."
"Oh, look, I have this great fabric that looks sooo Marie Antoinette."
"By the time Marie Antoinette was my age, she was dead. And she was Queen of France, something else that I will never be."
"Look, I finished it!"
"It's kind of cute."
For a pattern, I used the corset included with OOP Vogue 2086. It may not be the end-all-be-all of corset patterns, but if you consider that it was there in my closet waiting for me when I wanted to make a corset, it's pretty sweet. If you have a favorite corset pattern to recommend, please leave a comment. I would like to see if another draft would fit me better.

It looks wonderful! Marie Antoinette would be proud!
Hey, why not?? And I love that fabric.
I don't know any "forty-something suburban housewife" that can pull that look off as well as you. I can see it with skinny pants, too. Cute!
Its not a matter of age, but body shape. You still have the 'oh la la' to carry off this fabulous garment. I regard you as a fabric sculptor.
Um.
You wear it well.
Looks great, and that is ALL that matters.
We never remember the safe people . Go for it girl. I think we all secretly admire people who are scared and do it anyway I know I do . You look great in it I wich I had the bod to do it too.
Love the inner dialouge. There is a burda corset I've been quite obsessed with for almost 10 years. Love the underwear as outerwear. It is very cery cute!
You are rockin this outfit. Looks great on you!
That looks terrific! Wear it with an attitude!
Love the dialog. Cute look too, and I think you pull it off well.
I think it's hot, and you do look good in it.
I love the corset and the thought process. As the age consideration seeps into our decision-making process, we must decide who we are and and express that. Everyone else will have their own opinion about it and that's their business.
No one is handing out points for playing it safe :)
And you wear it well; very well.
carry on!
It's beautiful. I love the look. The picture showing the inside lining looks impecable. I may want to try a corset.I think I can see that with a t and skinny pants too. You have such fun, creative ideas.
I love it. Very Marie Antionette chic. I just found your blog, I love how you embroider a little something in each garment. What a wonderful touch.
Completely fabulous marriage of fabric and pattern. And you look te-riffic!
I haven't ever commented here before, have I?
It's so not me (corset), but apparently it's you.
And yes, I love the little embroidered animals too.
(My mind will be stuck all day on the bit where you have a corset pattern lying about, but not a separating zipper. I am so unprepared...)
I love how you don't do run-of-the-mill apparel sewing. You and I live in an area with access to stores where you can buy decent everyday clothes at reasonable prices, roughly the same cost if you were to sew them yourself. So you reserve your sewing time for the one-of-a-kind creations. That's smart. As soon as I get my daughter out of the house, off to college and needing less sewing from me, I want to make more unique stuff too.
Just wondering if you made that terrific skirt. Looks like pieces are graduated in size with smaller at top but it is hard to see details. I am starting a variation of my own and wonder if you can post a picture of the top of the skirt. Many thanks. I really look forward to your posts. Classy.
